The University of Cádiz welcomes students from The University of Southern Mississippi as part of the CSLM’s international programmes

The students will undertake an academic programme combined with linguistic and cultural immersion during their stay

The University of Cádiz has welcomed a group of 11 students from The University of Southern Mississippi (United States), who are undertaking an academic programme combined with linguistic and cultural immersion in Cádiz, accompanied by the programme coordinator in Mississippi, Juan Loaiza.

This summer programme forms part of the range of international programmes organised by the University School of Modern Languages (CSLM), promoted by the Vice-Rectorate for Internationalisation and the Directorate-General for Language Policy at the University of Cádiz, with the aim of enhancing the institution’s international profile and fostering academic and cultural exchange between students from different countries.

The partnership between the University of Cádiz and The University of Southern Mississippi has a strong track record. The summer programme began in 2015 and, a year later, was expanded with the launch of a semester-long programme for American students. Since then, the two universities have maintained a close institutional relationship, which has resulted in various academic visits, working meetings and the gradual strengthening of their cooperative ties. As a result of this collaboration, in 2023 both institutions formalised a specific exchange and mobility agreement that has helped to consolidate new international study opportunities for their students.

During their stay in Cádiz, the students will take part in academic activities focused on learning and improving their Spanish, as well as a comprehensive cultural immersion programme that will allow them to experience first-hand the historical, artistic and social heritage of the city and its surroundings.

Furthermore, the University of Cádiz is set to welcome a new group of students from The University of Southern Mississippi next September to take part in the semester-long programme, thereby reinforcing the continuity of an academic partnership that has been active for over a decade.

The arrival of these students once again highlights the University of Cádiz’s commitment to internationalisation, academic mobility and the creation of spaces for intercultural exchange that enrich the university experience for the entire academic community. The consolidation of ties with internationally renowned institutions such as the University of Southern Mississippi also helps to strengthen the UCA’s global presence and to continue promoting educational cooperation initiatives with an international scope.
