The UCA welcomes 24 students from The Chinese University of Hong Kong for a summer academic programme

The programme, organised by the University School of Modern Languages, combines Spanish language tuition with cultural immersion activities and strengthens collaboration between the two institutions.

The University of Cádiz has welcomed 24 students from The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK), who will be undertaking a summer academic placement at the university between 6 and 30 July. The initiative forms part of the international programmes promoted by the University School of Modern Languages (CSLM), which reports to the Vice-Rectorate for Internationalisation, and aims to promote the learning of Spanish and an understanding of Spanish culture and society through an academic and cultural immersion experience.

The welcome ceremony took place in the Salón de Grados at the Faculty of Economics and Business Studies and was attended by the Director-General for Language Policy and the University School of Modern Languages, Leonor Acosta, accompanied by the programme coordinator in Hong Kong, Antonio R. García Susperregui.

Over the coming weeks, the students will follow an academic programme focused on the study of Spanish, complemented by a range of cultural and immersion activities designed to foster an understanding of the heritage, traditions and social reality of the province of Cádiz. Planned activities include a visit to El Puerto de Santa María, a paella-making workshop and other activities aimed at promoting cultural exchange and integration with the local community. The students will be staying at the University of Cádiz’s halls of residence throughout their stay.

The collaboration between the University of Cádiz and The Chinese University of Hong Kong has been ongoing since 2023, when both institutions launched this summer programme. The 2026 edition marks the fourth consecutive year, reflecting the consolidation of an initiative that has helped to strengthen academic ties between the two universities and expand the UCA’s international reach across Asia.

Founded in 1963, The Chinese University of Hong Kong is one of the most prestigious universities in Asia. Renowned for its excellence in teaching and research, it maintains an extensive network of partnerships with universities around the world and actively promotes international mobility, language learning and intercultural understanding as part of its educational mission.

This programme forms part of the University of Cádiz’s internationalisation strategy, which promotes mobility, academic cooperation and cultural exchange with higher education institutions in various countries. In this context, the CSLM plays a leading role in promoting Spanish as a language of international communication and in developing training programmes aimed at international students.

The programme offers participants the opportunity to improve their language skills in an immersive environment, whilst also providing first-hand insight into the cultural and social reality of Andalusia and the province of Cádiz. This combination of academic training and cultural experiences is one of the programme’s key strengths and facilitates the exchange of knowledge and experiences amongst students from different backgrounds.
