Italian students kick off the international programmes at the University School of Modern Languages

Around twenty students from the Liceo Classico D. Manin in Cremona are taking part in an academic visit that combines language training, cultural activities and exchanges with students at the University of Cádiz

The University of Cádiz has launched the international programmes of the University School of Modern Languages (CSLM) with the arrival of around twenty students from the Liceo Classico D. Manin in Cremona (Italy), who are taking part in an academic visit to the university this week. This initiative forms part of the CSLM’s educational offering, under the Vice-Rectorate for Internationalisation, and strengthens the UCA’s international profile as an academic destination within Europe.

The programme takes place at the Faculty of Medicine and offers intensive training in Spanish language and culture, designed to facilitate the students’ linguistic immersion. This academic programme is complemented by a range of cultural activities that extend the learning experience beyond the classroom. These include visits to various local destinations, such as El Puerto de Santa María and Seville.

The welcome event for this international group was attended by the General Director for Language Policy and the CSLM, Leonor Acosta, alongside the centre’s International Programmes Coordinator, María Fernández. They were joined by the heads of the Italian programme, Alberto Maffini and Ilaria Spotti, at a meeting that served to mark the start of this academic visit and highlight the role of such initiatives in strengthening the University’s international ties.

As part of the planned programme, an InterUCAmbios session will be held this Wednesday. InterUCAmbios is the language exchange programme promoted by the CSLM in conjunction with the Vice-Rectorate for Internationalisation and the General Directorate for Language Policy. The event will take place between 5.30 pm and 7.00 pm in the courtyard of the Faculty of Medicine and will bring together the Italian students with Spanish-speaking students from the University of Cádiz. This space for direct interaction facilitates language practice in a real-life context, whilst fostering cultural exchange and mutual understanding among participants from different countries.

The launch of this programme marks the start of a new phase in the University of Cádiz’s welcome of international students. Over the coming weeks, the CSLM will continue to roll out its programme with the arrival of new groups from various countries. In this regard, a group of students from Austria is due to arrive next week, and programmes linked to partner universities in the United States are set to begin in May.
